Fresh water for drought and saline areas of the Mekong Delta

Drought and saline intrusion severely impact the Mekong Delta, threatening local livelihoods. To support sustainable living, CECAD and local authorities have implemented adaptive solutions through the Finland-funded CCBCR project. These efforts were featured in recent VTV1 broadcasts.

USAID Announces New Vietnam Partnership to Address Ocean Plastic Pollution

On January 12, 2022, CECAD joined a workshop announcing a partnership between USAID’s Clean Cities, Blue Ocean program and Vietnam’s VASI to combat ocean plastic pollution. The program will support national strategies and pilot waste management solutions in Hue, Da Nang, Bien Hoa, and Phu Quoc, with around $600,000 in funding for local initiatives.

Support Planning Team of People’s Committee of Phu Tan Commune Completing Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP) Manual Incorporating Saline Intrusion Resilience.

Following the training courses held in Phu Tan and Kieng Phuoc communes, village representatives organized community discussions to share information on the socio-economic impacts of saline intrusion and propose solutions to enhance future resilience.

Final of Youth-led Competition on Promoting Indigenous Knowledge for Better Resilience to Drought and Saline Intrusion in the Mekong River Delta

On November 7, 2021, the online final of the Youth-led Competition on Indigenous Knowledge for Climate Resilience was co-hosted by CECAD and the Youth Union of Tien Giang province. Representing CECAD were Dr. Le Thi Van Hue, Mr. Nguyen Anh Dung, and Ms. Tran Thi Lan Anh.

FLC-20-02: Oline Training: Develop an annual Communal Socio-Economic Development Plan Manual Incorporating Saline Intrusion Resilience with Participation of Local Communities

CECAD, in collaboration with Tien Giang Irrigation Department, held training sessions in Phu Tan and Kien Phuoc communes to help integrate drought and salinity adaptation into the annual Socio-Economic Development Plans (SEDP). The sessions, part of the CCBRC – FLC 20-02 project, aimed to boost community participation and featured local leaders and representatives from various sectors.

[FLC 20-02] Online training course: Capacity building and coaching for professional journalists and communication officers of local government agencies on communication on drought and saline intrusion

On November 5, 2021, under the FLC 20-02 project funded by the Finnish Embassy, CECAD held its first training on drought and saline intrusion communication for journalists and government officers, led by Ms. Tran Thi Thu Ha of VTV4.

FLC 20-02: Online training: Capacity building for communication officers of government agencies on communication skills on saline intrusion

On October 28, 2021, CECAD and local authorities of Phu Tan and Kieng Phuoc communes held an online training on communication skills for saline intrusion, under a Finnish-funded project to strengthen climate resilience in the Mekong Delta. The event saw strong engagement from officials and local residents.
