CECAD staff participated in the SGPII Regional Workshop in Jakarta, Indonesia (SGPII VQGHL Project).

On October 28–29, 2022, representatives from CECAD participated in the Regional Workshop for Phase 2 of the Small Grants Programme (SGP) held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The workshop was part Small Grants Programme in Vietnam (SGP II), funded by the German Development Bank (KfW) for ASEAN countries through the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB). In Vietnam, four ASEAN Heritage Parks (AHP) were selected to participate in the project, including Hoang Lien National Park, Ba Be National Park, Kon Ka Kinh National Park, and Chu Mom Ray National Park.

The implementing partners of the project in Vietnam is the Vietnam Environment Administration under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, which authorized the Biodiversity Conservation Agency (BCA) to establish a Project Management Unit (PMU) to coordinate project implementation nationwide.The Centre for Environment and Community Development (CECAD) currently serves as the Service Provider for Hoang Lien National Park.

The workshop was organized by the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB), with the participation of AHP management boards and consulting agencies from Indonesia, Vietnam, and Myanmar.

The participating ASEAN Heritage Park management boards included:

1. Gunung Leuser National Park, Indonesia
2. Way Kambas National Park, Indonesia
3. Alaungdaw Kathapa National Park, Indonesia
4. Indawgyi Lake Wildlife Sanctuary, Myanmar
5. Meinmahla Kyun Wildlife Sanctuary, Myanmar
6. Nat Ma Taung National Park, Myanmar
7. Ba Be National Park, Vietnam
8. Hoang Lien National Park, Vietnam
9. Chu Mom Ray National Park, Vietnam
10. Kon Ka Kinh National Park, Vietnam

By participating in the workshop, CECAD staff gained access to valuable information on: the Management Effectiveness Tracking Tool (METT); conservation areas and ASEAN Heritage Parks; best practices from ASEAN Heritage Parks; and sustainable financial management.

In addition, the workshop provided a great opportunity for CECAD staff to engage in direct exchanges of practical experiences with representatives from other countries involved in implementing the Small Grants Programme (SGP II). Through the working trip to Indonesia, CECAD staff acquired knowledge and insights that will positively support the next steps in implementing the SGP in Vietnam, in their role as the Service Provider.
